Life Experience
Craig Madsen is an experienced range management specialist and a Certified Educator in Holistic Management. Key areas of expertise include:
- Developing site specific resource management plans to address resource concerns for a landowner, and;
- Holistic Management, a decision making process that ensures people are making decisions moving them toward the life they desire.
Craig seeks out opportunities to work with clients who share his interest in holistic planning, understanding the part each individual plays in creating the life they desire. He has studied consensus building and decision-making processes (useful for community based projects) with The Allan Savory Center for Holistic Management in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Africa Centre for Holistic Management in Dibongombie, Zimbabwe. Craig was also a participant in the Kellogg Foundation/Washington State University Holistic Resource Management training project.
Craig has worked for the Natural Resources Conservation Service for 12 years. He assists landowners in developing resource management plans that address the objectives of the landowner and the needs of the ecosystem. He has assisted landowners in implementing their management plan by using government cost-share programs such as Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP), and the Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program (WHIP).
Craig is currently working with Solar$, a team of six Holistic Management Certified Educators in the Pacific Northwest, to provide resource management consulting and training in Holistic Management. The team provides workshops on Introduction to Holistic Management, Planning for Profit, Grazing and Land Planning along with Biological Monitoring and Consensus Building. The team will tailor training to fit the needs of the individual or a special group.
Work Experience
Range Management Specialist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service
Develop resource management plans on cropland, rangeland and pasture, which meet the objectives of the landowner and the needs of the ecosystem. The plans were implemented using one or more of the federal cost-share programs such as the Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP), Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and the Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program (WHIP). Craig is the team contact person for the range and CRP program for the Southeast Team, which means he has multi-county responsibility for the two programs. As the contract person he is responsible for transferring technical information from the State Office to the Field Offices and insuring that the questions from the field office get answered and applied with consistency. Craig has also developed conservation plans that meet the requirements of the Food Security Act.
Holistic Management Certified Educator
Craig has facilitated at 2 workshops on Holistic Management Financial Planning. Each workshop was team taught by 2 or more Certified Educators.
Range Technician
Craig has worked for the Bureau of Land Management collecting range inventory, step frequency and utilization data on range allotments in Arizona. He has also worked for the Forest Service as the crew leader for the range maintenance crew where the crew built fence, developed springs and sprayed noxious weeds. On both jobs he fought fire in various states in the West.
